INTERVIEW: rocker Rob Dickinson

As promised in our interview with director Mike Hodgkinson, here is our mini-interview with rock musician Rob Dickinson, who appeared on the "Oceans" video clip, shot with a Nokia N93 camera phone.

1. What was your first reaction when the idea of shooting a video clip using a cellphone was pitched to you? Did you have doubts?

Rob Dickinson: The idea appealed to me mainly for it's simplicity... the discipline of using a medium that required no crew, no lights, no bullshit....just an idea, a camera and a good song...the equipment encouraged a shoot from the hip approach and although Mike the director planned every shot well in advance, the sheer versatility and portability of the equipment brought it's own magic... I had no doubts as to the 'quality' of the images and knew the spirit in which the thing was shot would bring an x factor that would far out weigh any technical shortcomings.

2. Will you release a new single from your current album? If yes, have you decided which song that would be?

Rob Dickinson: 'Oceans' is the new focus of our attention

3. Have you started working on a newer album? Any ideas as to where you would like to take it to?

Rob Dickinson: I've been writing new stuff for a while know but we need to properly spread the word regarding 'Fresh Wine For The Horses' before embarking on a new record... the world is largely unaware that this record exists... this state of affairs must change.

4. How do you see the current music scene? Do you think that the indie rock will take over music from the big-4 labels?

Rob Dickinson: I think music made with an independent spirit will always prevail...the fact that such music now has more of a chance than ever of reaching an audience can only be positive.

5. What is your opinion on the RIAA/MPAA lawsuits against file-sharers?

Rob Dickinson: Not sure what this is about.

6. I noticed that you have a youtube and myspace account. Do you like computers?

Rob Dickinson: I've never been a techy person but one cannot underestimate the enormous revolution this equipment has brought us... that having been said, i have yet to purchase one of these machines... I check things out by looking over other peoples shoulders.

7. Do you feel that iTunes have helped the profit from your music, or is iTunes just hype?

Rob Dickinson: iTunes seems like a good idea.
